Bus Éireann is a commercial semi-state organisation providing both public and commercial transport services throughout Ireland.
With almost 80 million passenger journeys in 2017, Bus Éireann operates the largest integrated bus and coach network outside Dublin. They have three distinct product offerings – the services provided under the Public Service Obligation (PSO), a commercial service under the Expressway brand, and the Schools transport service under arrangement with the Department of Education and Skills transporting approximately 120,000 students to school every day. Bus Éireann operates a fleet of close to 1,200 coaches and buses serving a road passenger network of over 1.2 million different origin and destination combinations, and over 10,000 bus stops in both urban and rural settings. 112 new buses will enter the fleet in 2019.
Bus Éireann is progressing through a transformation plan as the competitiveness of the transport industry becomes ever more a reality, with a clear need to establish the business on a strong commercial footing. Establishing an accelerated digital strategy and capability is a key dependency for Bus Éireann’s success.
The recent appointment of the CEO follows the transformation of the entire Bus Éireann management team with a mix of external and internal appointments in the past twelve months to all positions.
Bus Éireann is now seeking to appoint a Chief Information Officer based in Dublin and reporting to the Chief Executive. This is a new position.
The Chief Information Officer will have responsibility for Bus Éireann’s enterprise wide digital vision and strategy. He/she will lead the development by translating the business strategy into a clear technology roadmap guiding the business on technology architecture and infrastructure choices. The appointee will have responsibility for the transformation of the Bus Éireann IT organisation, creating a high performance IT culture, securing diverse IT talent and capabilities. He/she will successfully plan and lead the organisation through technology-enabled change and transform business operations to drive top-line growth and improve customer service.
The role of Chief Information officer requires a minimum of 15 years professional experience in increasingly executive level roles in a large corporation/s. Familiarity with transport technology is highly desirable. The ability to build a successful technology vision and roadmap is essential along with the building of a high performance team. The appointee will have previous experience in leading business change enabled by technology including innovative and emerging technologies. He/she will show demonstrated capabilities in strategic thinking.
