Bus Éireann is a commercial semi-state organisation providing both public and commercial transport services throughout Ireland.
With almost 80 million passenger journeys in 2017, Bus Éireann operates the largest integrated bus and coach network outside Dublin. They have three distinct product offerings – the services provided under the Public Service Obligation (PSO), a commercial service under the Expressway brand, and the Schools transport service under arrangement with the Department of Education and Skills transporting approximately 120,000 students to school every day. Bus Éireann operates a fleet of close to 1,200 coaches and buses serving a road passenger network of over 1.2 million different origin and destination combinations, and over 10,000 bus stops in both urban and rural settings. 112 new buses will enter the fleet in 2019.

The recent appointment of the CEO follows the transformation of the entire Bus Éireann management team with a mix of external and internal appointments in the past twelve months to all positions.
Bus Éireann is seeking to appoint a Chief Commercial Officer based in Dublin and reporting to the Chief Executive.
The successful candidate will have responsibility for Bus Éireann’s commercial performance by increasing net income from a combination of existing commercial activities and identification of new innovative, profitable and commercially sustainable business opportunities and revenue streams. He/she will ensure a strategic and analytical approach to brand development, targeting at building sustainable competitive advantage for all brands/routes. He/she will lead the competition for new business opportunities through to tender submission, pitching, pricing and negotiation, contract development and client management. He/she will also be responsible for a compelling strategy for building and managing Bus Éireann’s corporate reputation.
The role of Chief Commercial Officer requires a minimum of 10 years senior management experience with a strong emphasis around delivering and implementing commercial strategies and contributing to complex and impactful commercial plans. Experience in winning new business in a competitive tendering process is highly desirable as is the ability to build a successful commercial technology roadmap. Bus Éireann operates in a regulated environment and so understanding and experience of working in a similar environment is a distinct advantage.
