Our client is a successful indigenous food company that supplies quality assured, premium products to an established client base.  The majority of product is exported to major supermarket chains and retailers that are located in mainland Europe and Asia.  The company’s success is based on a responsive and proactive approach to customers, its strong collaborative working relationships with suppliers and a firm focus on sustainability.  To support its continued success, the company is now seeking to appoint a General Manager to one of its production plants which is based in Wexford.

Role Overview:

This position reports to the CEO and requires an experienced operations manager with strong leadership and commercial abilities.  The General Manager will lead the plant’s management team to deliver products efficiently and profitably and will work closely with the Sales Team to manage customer requirements. 

The appointed person will develop and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders, including suppliers and will have the ability to deal with customers directly in areas such as new product development and on-site audits.

The General Manager will work closely with the Company’s Sales and Marketing team to deliver differentiating new products based on market needs and analysis (to include seasonal trends, category trends etc).  The holder of this position will interact effectively with all main functions in the Company, ensuring that activities and updates are clearly communicated, planned and validated from all perspectives. 

Experience in food production or a comparable area is required and an understanding of the European FMCG market is highly desirable.  This position requires excellent leadership and communication abilities, as well as significant influencing skills in dealing with individuals and groups at all levels.  

The appointed person will be a highly competent contributor with an affinity for continuous improvement, in addition to high energy levels and personal standards in terms of quality, excellence and the desire to achieve.  A dynamic and highly collaborative and self-motivated working style is essential.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills Include

  • A relevant primary Degree in Production, Business or Food-related Sciences.
  • Proven management experience in a Food Production environment
  • A successful track record of people management.
  • Understanding of the European FMCG retail and food manufacturing industries.
  • Ability to formulate and manage price / margin strategies, with a strong commercial focus.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to European markets to ensure close understanding of the market and customer requirements.
  • Highly self-motivated with a desire for self-development.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent Time Management, Analytical and Organisational Skills.
