The Irish Times DAC has recently completed the acquisition of all of the publishing and media interests of the Landmark Media group. The objective of the newly combined entities is to create a dynamic and vibrant media business which can sustain itself for the longer term and where the respective media assets – national, regional and radio – will contribute significantly to the Irish media market. The transaction brings together two organisations with a quality focus and strong ethos. To support this consolidation we are seeking to recruit for the following leadership position:

Managing Director of the Irish Examiner and Evening Echo     

REF: IE001

Reporting to the Managing Director of The Irish Times, the successful candidate will play a key role in leading the strategic growth and development of the Irish Examiner and Evening Echo. He/she will have responsibility for marketing, sales and people management of these iconic brands. As part of the role, this person will be a key member of The Irish Times senior management executive group.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Drive growth and profitability in the Irish Examiner and Evening Echo
  • Operational responsibility for the revenue and costs of the Irish Examiner and the Evening Echo
  • Identify and help to drive transformation and improvements to the digital platform in line with the overall Group strategy
  • Develop and grow audience and digital revenues
  • Direct day-to-day management responsibility for all key components of the Irish Examiner and Evening Echo and related businesses
  • Liaise closely with the Editor on developing appropriate strategies on content and readership
  • As part of the Group senior management team, devise organisational and structural changes needed in the business to provide a solid framework for growth

The successful candidate will have significant experience in leading a management team in a robust and competitive environment.  He/she will be commercial with a strong background in B2B sales and have held P&L responsibility. Exposure to transformational management and leading large teams are vital, as are an interest in media and understanding of the changing media landscape.
