The Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) is a national representative body with members in every town and business sector of an Industry that employs over 40,000 people in Ireland.
We are the voice of the Irish Motor Industry at home and in Europe and we work to ensure that our Industry is fair, trusted and focused on delivering for consumers, the environment and improved safety on our roads.
While we have managed significant change since our formation in 1922, the current pace of technological and environmental change suggest that the next 10 years will bring more fundamental shifts to our Industry than the past 100 years. Given this, a key strategic focus of SIMI will be the training and skills development needs of people working in our Industry at this exciting time.
SIMI are appointing a Director General Designate due to the planned retirement of the current Director General in 2019.
Based in Dublin, the role will initially report to the current DG while working closely with the Senior Executive team and the SIMI Management Board. The successful candidate will take over responsibility for leading SIMI during 2019.
As leader of SIMI, the successful candidate will both deliver strategies that will benefit the Irish Motor Industry commercially, and guide the Industry through the complex political and technical landscape at both Irish and EU levels.
In addition to being a trusted advocate for the Industry, the DG Designate will nurture SIMI’s culture and continue to build positive relationships with our stakeholders.
Operationally, the candidate will lead the SIMI Head Office team, develop our membership, and improve current SIMI services.
The selected candidate will be an inspiring person who has demonstrated strong leadership and communication skills in their career to-date, along with a high degree of competence in problem-solving, change management, strategy development and delivery of targets.
An understanding of the significant environmental challenges and technological changes facing the mobility sector is fundamental. Prior experience with consumer, legal, taxation, economic and political issues and processes, including at European level, will be a significant advantage.
