Head of Hillsborough Castle
Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) is an independent charity which manages the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, the Banqueting House, Kensington Palace, Kew Palace and Hillsborough Castle. We help everyone to explore the story of how monarchs and people have shaped society in some of the greatest palaces ever built.
Hillsborough Castle is a late eighteenth century Georgian mansion house set in almost 100 acres of ornamental grounds and is the official residence of the Royal Family when they are in Northern Ireland as well as the residence of the Secretary of State. Next year it will begin a new chapter in its story, welcoming the public through its doors to enjoy the fascinating history, royal apartments and glorious gardens with extensive new facilities for visitors, learners and the community, new gardens to enjoy and restored royal and state rooms to see.
We are seeking an exceptional new Head to provide the strong leadership required to open Hillsborough and take the castle through the next chapter of its history. At the heart of this role is a requirement to drive operational excellence, continuously improving customer experience and ensuring that our service remains authentic, seamless and distinctive. You will also provide clear leadership across a variety of exciting new initiatives planned to take place at the Castle in the coming years, aimed at motivating more visits and transforming experiences.
A background in visitor attraction management will be essential, along with a genuine appreciation of what goes into a world class visitor experience for a site like Hillsborough Castle. In addition to appropriate experience, highly effective leadership skills and sharp commercial acumen will both be critical, but you will also need to combine these with outstanding skills in communication, influencing and diplomacy. People at HRP are among the very best in their fields and we believe that this rare appointment, overseeing our newest addition, presents a distinctive and unrivalled opportunity.
