Established in Dublin in 1541, the Honorable Society of King’s Inns comprises Benchers, (judges of the Supreme, Appeal and High Courts, and elected practicing barristers) barristers and students. Through the School of Law, it provides the professional training and education for qualification as a barrister, specialist legal courses (Advanced Diplomas) for lawyers and others, and as an educational body it promotes and advances learning in the law. The Benchers of King’s Inns admit persons to the profession of barrister, and have the power to disbar barristers.
The Honorable Society of King’s Inns has retained SRI Executive to assist with their search for an exceptional candidate to fill the position of Under Treasurer. This is a full-time position and the successful candidate will be engaged on a five-year basis.
Based at King’s Inns offices on Henrietta Street, the Under Treasurer will oversee services to members and enhance the professional profile of King’s Inns. S/he will work closely with the Dean of the School of Law, who has responsibility for education matters, and the Registrar clearly articulating and actively communicating the important position of the Society, ensuring that it is recognized as a vital part of the legal and economic infrastructure and appreciated for the unique, prominent place it holds in Irish public life and in the legal community. The role of Under Treasurer is critical for the success of King’s Inns. Reporting directly to the Chairman of the Council of King’s Inns, the Under Treasurer will lead and be accountable for all strategic, operational, financial and functional activities, as well as external liaison.
This excellent opportunity calls for someone with proven corporate managerial and communication skills, able to win trust and respect. Knowledge of the law and professional education and training services would be of benefit, but of primary consideration in making this appointment will be the candidate’s corporate level managerial and financial skills, leadership talents and ability to ensure that all the services and operations of King’s Inns meet the highest of standards. Personal characteristics of vision and drive, leadership skills and an inherent ability to influence will be essential. It will be necessary to lead the development of King’s Inns using maturity, enthusiasm, confidence and patience and this role calls for an individual with outstanding personal and organizational skills.
