The Organisation

The Royal Irish Automobile Club is a member-based organisation founded in 1901 to promote and foster an interest in motor sports, motoring, leisure and the overall automobile industry. The Club’s base is Dawson Street, Dublin 2, housing a facility available to members with restaurants, library, reading room, parking and WiFi in the heart of Dublin City. In addition, meeting and function rooms are available to members as well as car wash/valet facilities by arrangement.

Motorsport Ireland is the Governing Body and the face of Irish motor sport, responsible for the development and control of motor sports in the Republic of Ireland.

In terms of activities, the Organisation holds the sporting power on behalf of the FIA which in turn is delegated on an annual basis to Motorsport Ireland. Key stakeholder relationships include the Boards of the RIAC and Motorsport Ireland, as well as The Road Safety Authority (RSA), Sport Ireland, members & affiliates and motor sport clubs.

The Role

The role of Chief Executive Officer will be to manage the RIAC and Motorsport Ireland from a commercial, governance and operational perspective, including the pending redevelopment of the premises on Dawson Street. This will involve all aspects of a member-based organisation and will include (but not limited to) the following core areas;

  • Financial and operational management of the organisation,
  • Membership services and facilities,
  • Future planning and growth of the organisation,
  • Management of the Organisation and its responsibilities as a guardian of motor sport in Ireland,
  • Public relations,
  • Advocacy on behalf of the motor sport sector in Ireland,
  • Development of additional services to members to include affinity offerings,
  • Management and reporting in a committee structured environment,
  • Staff management, currently includes, Administration, Accounting, Catering and Facilities staff,
  • Corporate Governance, Data Protection and Health and Safety.

The Person

The ideal candidate will have proven experience and credibility in the management of a member-based organisation. You will have a demonstrable track record of achievement in leading an organisation in the hospitality, sport and leisure or business services sector. Your ability to drive growth across new and existing services will be well regarded. You will also have experience of working with an active Board and Committee structure and will act as a key adviser in the development of the organisation over the coming years.

The appointed person will have delivered strategic and operational growth in a similar environment and will have the energy, drive and a knowledge of motor sport to capitalise on a significant opportunity to bring the Organisation through its next phase of development.

The remuneration package offered will be commensurate with the seniority of this position.
