Head of Innovation – R&D Lab

A multinational Tech company seeks a new Head of Innovation to lead a multi-location team, identifying new technologies to improve company systems. within their R&D Labs specialist team. 

The successful candidate will have extensive contacts and reach into the start-up and tech innovation space, and a track record of attracting Venture Capital and private equity-backed projects. 

The Job
Your main purpose will be to originate engagement opportunities between the organisation and the most relevant external thought leaders and companies that can accelerate technology strategy definition and execution. Your focus will be on the European innovation ecosystem with frequent travel required to engage with these influential stakeholders.

Your deliverables can be senior executives’ events (innovation trips, fairs, networking events, online events, etc.) or executive briefings

The Expertise you require

• 10+ years’ real-world experience at the juncture between business and technology, as a corporate / technology / product strategist, corporate innovator, strategy consultant, leader at a start-up or a start-up incubator / accelerator
• Heavily connected to and immersed in the start-up and finance ecosystem
• A growth mindset, with an outstanding ability to structure the exploration and reporting of the unknown, a verbal and written communication style that captures the attention of senior executives, and a passion for networking and relationship management

• You are a natural networker, and proactively look for ways to nurture your intellectual and social curiosity
• You have a keen understanding of enterprise and consumer technology and the ability to translate a new technology / trend in business terms
• You can build frameworks that map the external ecosystem against Fidelity strategic intent
• You can effectively communicate and engage with all levels of the organization with both business and technology leaders
• You can establish yourself as a thought leader internally and externally on specific technologies and/or business opportunities; ability to build strong relationships with a meaningful network of high-level thought leaders
• You are a self-starter, with the ability to ideate, plan and execute initiatives – thanks to you, things just happen
• You have a proven understanding of both the Startup and the Corporate environments, and can value pros and cons of both; you understand how startups and corporates can establish mutually beneficial relationships and ideally have a proven track record on establishing successful partnerships
