Bus Éireann is a commercial semi-state organisation providing both public and commercial transport services throughout Ireland. Its products include city services and commuter/rural services both of which receive some state funding. Its longer distance inter-city product, Expressway, is an entirely commercial operation. Bus Éireann is also responsible for the provision of School Transport Services on behalf of the Department of Education & Skills, transporting 114,000 students to/from school each day during the academic year.

Bus Éireann is undergoing a period of extensive change and faces many of the challenges that such change brings. The National Transport Authority (NTA), Bus Éireann’s regulatory body, has identified 10% of Bus Éireann’s routes which will be open to public tendering in 2017.

There are plans to re-structure Expressway which are currently under review and re-structuring of School Transport is also an issue due to EU legislation. Competition continues to grow in the transport market placing pressure on customer growth and retention at a time when there are on-going funding restrictions.

Bus Éireann now wishes to appoint a Chief Customer Officer based in Dublin and reporting to the Chief Executive.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for all aspects of the customers’ experience in Bus Éireann and overall strategic and operational responsibility for all of Bus Éireann’s road transport operations (commercial and non-commercial).  Working closely with the Chief Executive and senior team the person will be instrumental in delivering structural and cultural change focussed on building a sustainable business and achieving performance and safety metrics that have the customer at its core.

The role of Chief Customer Officer requires an individual with previous senior operations management experience preferably in the transport or related sector with a track record of delivering change and business results.  The role also requires excellent interpersonal and people management skills and the capability to work closely with other agencies, businesses and stakeholders.
