organisation that plays an essential role in improving Ireland’s health and social care and support services. Among its functions, HIQA promotes quality and safety, assesses health technologies and advises on the use of health information.

HIQA is seeking to fill the following vacancy:

Chief Scientist, Health Technology Assessment
Dublin or Cork

The post of Chief Scientist - HTA is based in the HTA Directorate. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team with responsibility for the effective implementation of HIQA’s HTA and evidence synthesis programmes to deliver high quality outputs and to embed HTA and evidence support in healthcare decision-making processes in Ireland. Increased demand for healthcare in the context of finite healthcare budgets has amplified the need for evidence-based investment and disinvestment decisions to ensure population Chief Scientist - Health Technology Assessment health benefits can be maximised from the available budget. HTAs provide unbiased information and analysis to support evidence-based health policy and service decision making. Demand for HTA outputs has increased. Typically these requests emanate from the Minister for Health, the Chief Medical Officer of the Department of Health and senior executive management in the HSE. In addition, the HTA team is actively engaged with the HSE clinical programmes through the NCEC guidelines development work which has led to increased awareness of the value that HTA brings and subsequent requests for support and analysis.
