EXTERNAL MEMBERS TO OUR
BOARDS AND COMMITTEES
Founded as the national training body for surgery in Ireland, RCSI has been at the forefront of healthcare education since its establishment in 1784. Today, we are an innovative, world-leading international health sciences education and research institution offering education and training at Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Professional level.
The governing body of RCSI is its Council, composed of 21 surgeons who are Fellows of the College and are elected by the College’s Fellows and Members Council meets regularly during the year and meetings are chaired by the President of RCSI. Council delegates a number of its main functions to various boards and committees. The significant activities of these boards and committees are reported to Council on a regular basis.

External members should provide an independent, external perspective and infuse RCSI’s boards/committees with fresh, new thinking on all aspects of activities. The external members are not required to have a healthcare background however they should be able to demonstrate how their skills and experience will bring value to RCSI. They should be committed to pro-actively contributing to and working with RCSI to advance medical education and healthcare in Ireland and Internationally.

If you would like to apply to be a member of an RCSI board/committee, please forward a short (one side of A4) expression of interest statement, highlighting how you would be able to contribute.
