Chief Technical Officer
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is part of the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment, and is responsible for leading in the management of major cyber security incidents, providing guidance and advice to citizens and businesses, and managing cyber security related risks to key services, including Government and critical infrastructure. Since May 2018, it has also been the National Competent Authority for the purposes of EU Directive 2016/1148 of 6 July 2016 on Network and Information Security. As such, the Centre also has a demanding set of formal roles around assessing the compliance of critical infrastructure operators and digital service providers with the requirements of the Directive.
Reporting to the Director of the NCSC, the Chief Technical Officer will lead the technical work of the Centre, including leading the unit’s technological development by drawing up and implementing a technological roadmap for the organisation. In addition to this s/he will maintain a current knowledge of the technology landscape and developments so as to help inform national policy and the operations of the NCSC and assist in the management and assessment of incidents, both as they develop and by means of the after action review process.
The successful candidate will have a qualification at Level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications in Cyber Security, computer science or a directly related field. In addition to this, s/he will have at least five years’ experience in Cyber Security, either in operational or research roles, including experience with malware analysis and incident response and an ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver common objectives.
