Gasóga na hÉireann / Scouting Ireland is a voluntary non formal educational movement with over 50,000 youth and adult members across the island of Ireland. The Aim of Scouting Ireland is to encourage the Social, Physical, Intellectual, Character, Emotional and Spiritual development of young people so that they may achieve their full potential and, as responsible citizens, to improve society.

The current Chief Executive Officer of Scouting Ireland is due to retire at the end of February 2020 and the Board of Directors wish to appoint a new Chief Executive.


Reporting to the non-executive Chairperson and the voluntary Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer is the senior executive with overall responsibility for the direction, management and administration of the organisation, ensuring the provision of high-quality services to young people.

The Chief Executive leads the senior management team which includes: operations, finance, support services, programmes and the national scout centres. There are 35 employees in total and an annual budget allocation of approximately €4.3 million. The Chief Executive will also be required to represent the organisation publicly and develop and maintain strong positive relationships with members, the board, senior management, professional staff and volunteers as well as relevant government departments and other statutory agencies, representing the interests of young people and their families.


Suitably qualified and interested candidates will have significant experience at senior management level with responsibility for quality service provision, staff and operational budgets. Core competencies required will include: leadership, strategic vision, financial, commercial and legal acumen, change management, communication/representation, organisation, relationship building and results orientation. A commitment to the mission, vision and values of Scouting Ireland will be essential.
