Chief Executive, The Law Society of Northern Ireland.

The Law Society of Northern Ireland was established by Royal Charter in 1922 and is an independent and self-funding body which admits qualified persons to the Roll of Solicitors and sets and regulates professional and ethical standards for solicitors for the protection of the public. It is an authoritative voice on matters of justice, administration of law and the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms.

The Chief Executive plays a critical leadership role as regulator of the solicitors’ profession and representative of the interests of solicitors in Northern Ireland, operating in a dynamic and diverse environment which is open to a high degree of public scrutiny. The organisation is required to be agile in approach, enabled by technology and responsive to membership requirements and statutory obligations.

The Law Society wishes to appoint a visionary leader who will provide strategic direction and further develop the collegiate approach of the profession to matters of common interest and purpose.  Working with a range of stakeholders locally, nationally and internationally, the Chief Executive will strengthen the standing and profile of the solicitors’ profession as key professional legal advisers and promote their vital and valued role in business and civic society.

While a legal qualification is not necessary, it is important that you have a knowledge and awareness of the legal system in this jurisdiction and possess the leadership capability to shape the vision for and strategic direction of membership and support services provided to solicitors.  The ability to influence and engage across a complex and diverse environment involving a variety of stakeholders and governments will demand a collaborative approach and excellent communication skills.

Should you wish to request a candidate briefing document or have an informal and confidential discussion about the role, please contact Claire McKee or Joanne McAuley of Clarendon Executive on 02890 725750 or email

Closing date for receipt of CVs and completed application forms is 12 noon, Tuesday 7th May 2019.
