The Director of Services is responsible for the effective and efficient operation, and further development, of a comprehensive range of services to persons with intellectual disability and their families.

 The successful candidate must have a positive attitude towards working with persons with intellectual disability. He/she must be committed to a person centred approach to service delivery and through appropriate organisational structures and processes support and assist each person to identify and realise their personal goals, as equal and valued citizens, in society. 

The Galway Region currently supports over a thousand people with intellectual disability and their families and has an annual budget of approximately €50 million and in excess of 1000 staff. The successful appointee has a particular responsibility to provide dynamic leadership through the promotion and realisation of the Brothers of Charity Services

Vision, Mission and Ethos throughout the region, in relationships with other organisations and statutory bodies, and in dealings with the wider community. He/She will develop and implement strategies which will enhance the quality of services delivered. 

The successful appointee is responsible for the effective management of all operational budgets, and for leading, developing and motivating the senior management team. The Director of Services is required to develop and manage relationships with the HSE, Government Departments and other relevant organisations; handle complex and sensitive issues and positively represent the Brothers of Charity Services Ireland.

The successful appointee must:

  • Have at least 5 years senior management experience.
  • Have a relevant level 8 degree or higher.
  • Have a detailed knowledge of HIQA requirements and be ready to act as the HIQA Provider Nominee for the Galway Region.
  • Be an experienced people manager, able to lead and motivate large teams and have experience of working as a member of a team.
  • Experience in managing or leading an organisational change programme is essential.
