The Department of Health provides leadership and policy direction for the health sector and is responsible for the entire publicly funded health budget of €14.6 billion, which includes the financial allocation to the Health Service Executive (HSE) as well as other funded health agencies.
Reporting to the Secretary General, the Head of Finance and Evaluation will be a member of the Department’s senior management team with overall responsibility for ensuring the Department meets the challenges associated with managing the Health Vote. S/he will also develop the necessary analytical and evaluation capability to ensure effective financial management across all Divisions of the Department and in relation to all areas of the Department’s responsibilities.
The successful candidate will have:
• a proven track record in expenditure management, cost analysis and
financial reporting at a senior level;
• an understanding of current economic and fiscal challenges and familiarity
with the policy context and current issues connected with Ireland’s health
• excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to build effective relationships
with internal and external stakeholders;
