As a monastic school, Cistercian College Roscrea is a leading Catholic educator in the Cistercian/Benedictine tradition, developing self-acting, hard-working young men of integrity who are resilient, motivated, empathetic and conscientious in their pursuit of excellence.

The successful applicant will lead, manage and coordinate the Day, 5 Day & 7 Day Boarding community of Cistercian College in the pursuit of its strategic objectives and values with a particular emphasis on the pastoral, spiritual and personal support and empowerment of students.

The Head of Boarding is a senior professional pastoral and administrative leader, who supports students and staff in their personal and professional life in the College, with specific care for those who reside on the College campus. The key focus of this role is on providing strong leadership of the College mission, which must be centred on students and operate within the framework of the Cistercian College tradition and the vision of the Mount St Joseph Abbey Trustees and the School Strategic Plan.

This strong leadership will be expressed through outstanding pastoral, learning and organisational programmes for students who attend and/or live in the College. The Head of Boarding will coordinate and support the multiple and varied learning programmes and experiences in the College, leading and supporting all College staff in their roles as facilitators, mentors and carers in ‘loco parentis’.

The Head of Boarding will directly lead and coordinate all House & Residential Staff in implementing the Boarding Policy, routines and daily organisation of the College and will be responsible for the overall implementation of the College’s admissions policy and for driving new enrolments to CCR.

A senior member of the College Leadership Team, the Head of Boarding will drive the Pastoral Care Management strategy and be directly responsible to the Board of Management, through the President, for the overall daily administration of the non-classroom environment for CCR students.

The successful candidate must:

  • Be a registered teacher or equivalent
  • Possess a demonstrable commitment to fostering a life-enhancing and educative (academic, social, recreational and cultural) residential community for all students where the strong are challenged and the weak are supported
  • Be required to undergo Garda vetting procedures in compliance with the National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012 to 2016.
  • Possess a tertiary qualification specific to this role and/or leadership
  • Have postgraduate studies in education
  • Have experience in a high performing boarding school environment

A strong commercial acumen, particularly in financial planning, budgetary management, marketing and sales, etc is essential. Exemplary leadership, excellent administrative and organisational skills are paramount as are strong interpersonal and technology skills, specifically in its use to capture and interrogate data, analysing financial and related reports.

A generous package including salary and benefits is available for the successful candidate. While not essential, it is desirable that the successful applicant is willing to reside on site in College-provided accommodation.
