Description

As a dedicated and motivated Emergency Medicine Consultant, you will be joining a dynamic and busy Emergency Department within a regional health service.  Providing specialist medical care to all attending patients, you will report to the Director of Emergency Medicine whilst managing registrars, junior staff and undergraduates in a supervisory and clinical manner.

With the department receiving 45,000 presentations annually, with a case mix that includes major trauma and 20% paediatric cases, you will make sure the department runs to the highest of standards and that the clinical care of patients is supported via planning, supervising and arranging appropriate clinical investigations all within a timely manner.

With a complete team consisting of 11.5 FACEMS, 12 registrars,

13 junior and 2 other medical staff, it is also supported by very good and committed nursing staff which is one of the reasons it is considered such a great place to work. You will be able to

communicate with all members of the multidisciplinary team as well as with other areas  and disciplines within and outside of the health service. This will ensure all necessary care is carried out for patients and that any onward referrals are managed effectively.

Based in an accredited teaching hospital, this Emergency Department itself facilitates an active training program with a mixture of provisional  and advanced trainees meaning there is a lot of teaching opportunity. Along with teaching trainees, junior medical staff and university students you will also find that participation in research is actively encouraged as well as involvement in quality improvement activities. You will largely be responsible for arranging and maintaining your own Continuing Professional Development.

With a great staff dynamic, the Emergency Department was updated only 4 years ago.  This means facilities for staff are excellent as well as equipment levels being good and the space being very functional. You will be expected to work various shifts on a fulltime basis,

although part-time work may be considered. The expectation on what duties you need to carry out may vary dependent on what shift and what area you are assisting with but will always include the need to manage and coordinate handover meetings, ensure active discharge planning, meet all hospital health and safety standards as well as assisting in the supervision and teaching of other staff to name but a few. The current on-call requirement is 1 in 6 however this is expected to drop off as the staffing levels increase.

With this opportunity comes the chance to access support from a broad range of other disciplines as well as the chance to work within an excellent and committed environment. With developments continuing to happen, the department is continuously striving to meet the needs of the community meaning you will be able to make a real difference to the team.

Keys to Success

To be successful in applying for this position you will display a solid understanding of emergency medicine with experience in Australia or from country with a comparable health care system such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada or the USA.

You will hold Fellowship with the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine and have specialist general registration with AHPRA. Alternatively you must hold FACEM equivalent, have experience from a comparable country and be eligible for registration.

You will be looking to join an Emergency department where you can really make a difference to the team as well as to the wider community. You will be dedicated to the health service and excited by the lifestyle on offer.
