President, Institute of Technology, Tralee
The Institute of Technology, Tralee (ITT) is a university level institute in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland. The Institute has been to the forefront of learning since its establishment in 1977 and has a reputation as a centre of excellence for teaching, learning and research. The Institute offers a range of full-time and part-time programmes ranging from higher certificate through to honours degree and post-graduate Masters and Doctoral level. The Institute collaborates with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland to deliver the International Medical Commencement Programme and holds the UNESCO Chair in Inclusive Physical Education, Sports, Fitness and Recreation. The Institute has a community of circa 3,500 students and 380 staff.
The Institute has a unique combination of education and enterprise, sharing its North Campus with the Tom Crean Business Incubation Centre, which provides support for entrepreneurs and campus companies and the Kerry Technology Park, a high quality business park,hosting over 40 start-up companies.
The Institute has a vacancy for a President, to lead and oversee the development of the Institute in a period of significant change in the higher education sector in Ireland. Within this timeframe the Institute plans to merge with Cork Institute of Technology to achieve designation as the Munster Technological University (www.mtu.ie) and the successful candidates for this post will have the opportunity to apply for the post of President in the new university.
The successful candidate will be a strategic leader, with a proven track record of achievement at a senior level in business, industry, the public sector or higher education. Highly developed organisational, change management, communication and interpersonal skills are also essential, as is a strong understanding of the higher education system.
This is a full-time fixed term appointment for five years.
